The IRS has announced inflation adjustments for nearly 70 federal tax provisions for 2027. For families planning across income, gifting and business decisions, the headline changes include updated income-tax thresholds, a higher standard deduction and revised limits for several credits and benefits.
The amounts below are drawn from IRS News Release IR-2026-133 and Revenue Procedure 2026-35. The tax year generally applies to returns filed in 2028.
2027 federal income tax brackets
These thresholds apply to taxable income—income after deductions, not gross income. Federal individual income tax rates are progressive marginal rates: each rate applies only to the portion of taxable income within that bracket, not to all income.
| Marginal rate | Single taxable income | Married filing jointly taxable income |
|---|---|---|
| 10% | Up to $12,800 | Up to $25,600 |
| 12% | Over $12,800 through $52,025 | Over $25,600 through $104,050 |
| 22% | Over $52,025 through $109,125 | Over $104,050 through $218,250 |
| 24% | Over $109,125 through $208,325 | Over $218,250 through $416,650 |
| 32% | Over $208,325 through $264,550 | Over $416,650 through $529,100 |
| 35% | Over $264,550 through $661,375 | Over $529,100 through $793,650 |
| 37% | Over $661,375 | Over $793,650 |
“Over … through …” describes each bracket boundary; the top rate applies to taxable income above the stated threshold. These are federal ordinary income-tax brackets, not capital-gains rates or a complete calculation of an individual tax bill.
Standard deduction amounts
For tax year 2027, the standard deduction amounts are:

| Single | $16,600 |
| Married filing separately | $16,600 |
